That’s what Sandra Bullock told students during an incredibly moving surprise commencement speech at Warren Easton Charter High School in New Orleans on Monday (May 19).
The actress — who was tasked with talking about what she would tell her younger self —
encouraged students to stop being scared of the unknown and raise the bar higher.
“The unknown we can’t do anything about,” said Bullock, who was honored at the 2013 People’s Choice as Favorite Humanitarian for her work with the school. “I don’t remember any of the times in my life where I worried. So, that’s a lot of time I couldn’t get back.”
That’s not the only bit of wisdom the Gravity star imparted. Bullock, who said she wanted to give students the same advice she shares with her four-year-old son, also stressed the importance of eating healthy and, of course, not picking your nose in public.
Wise words from a superstar. Watch it:
Raise the bar higher. It is noisy out there and for some reason, people want to see you fail. That’s not your problem, that is their problem. I only remember the moments where I tried beyond what I thought I could do and I do not remember the failures because I didn’t … Go find your joy. It’s what you’re going to remember in the end. It’s not the worry, it’s not the what-ifs. It’s the joy that stays with you.
Entertainment Weekly – Sandra Bullock didn’t win 2014?s Best Actress Oscar – but she did win this year’s “Decade of Hotness” Award.
Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, and Charlize Theron are a few of the other actresses Spike TV has honored with its equivalent of a Lifetime Achievement prize at its annual Guys Choice Awards. Other awards handed out at the event include “Our New Girlfriend” (Chrissy Teigan was last year’s) and “Most Manticipated Movie” (Man of Steel snagged that one in 2013).
Bullock won an Academy Award in 2010 for her work in The Blind Side and was nominated this year for her role as a stranded astronaut in Gravity. (Honors that barely matter next to this one, to be sure.) The Guys Choice Awards air June 11 at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
The Hollywood Reporter – Bullock is circling to star as trailblazing sales exec Brownie Wise in an untitled project detailing the rise of Tupperware that has The Help director Tate Taylor attached to direct.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV, whose credits range from The Fighter to The Muppets, are producing.
The producers put together the package over the course of several months and hope to find a home for it soon. The likely first stop would be Disney, where the company has its production deal.
The script, which Taylor wrote, is based on Tupperware Unsealed, the non-fiction book written by Bob Kealing. Taylor has met and discussed the project with Bullock, but although the actress has expressed a desire to do it, she is not formally attached.
Tupperware was originally developed by Earl Silas Tupper but took off in the 1950s when sales exec Wise came up with the idea of having Tupperware parties. Soon those get-togethers were sweeping the nation and Wise became as popular as the product she was selling and in 1954 she also became the first woman to appear on the cover of Business Week.
Wise, however, clashed with Tupper, who eventually pushed her out in 1958 and tried his best to erase her from the company records. She never recovered from the action and was an early casualty of the sexism wars that were beginning to be fought in post-World War II America.
A new photo session has been added to the gallery, it was published back in February at LA Times:
Finally, I managed to add screen captures of Gravity to our gallery, as well screen captures from the DVD extras. It took me the whole day to proper sort everything, since there’s over 2 hours of extras, with plenty of behind-the-scenes and interviews. Check it by following the previews below:
And finally I have updated the gallery with pictures of Sandra last night at the Academy Awards. She was stunning in a navy blue dress, and sadly, she didn’t win as Best Actress (the award goes to Cate Blanchett), but it was definitely a great award season for Sandy, specially when it goes to her style. She had so many incredible choices and this navy Alexander McQueen gown. Check our gallery for over 200 HQ pictures and you can expect more during the week.
