Variety reports that Sandra Bullock is joining Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) for an untitled female buddy comedy and it will center on the strained relationship between a high-strung FBI agent and a “unconventional” Boston police officer. If it’s not clear who will play who, well, then you clearly need to watch more movies. “Parks and Recreation” scribe Katie Dippold has written the script, Feig will direct, naturally, Bullock and McCarthy will star while Chermin Entertainment will produce. Twentieth Century Fox will distribute.

The expectations are sky-high for Alfonso Cuarón‘s Gravity, the director’s first film since 2006?s Children of Men. In fact, between the A-list cast (Sandra Bullock and George Clooney), its intriguing sci-fi premise, its ambitious long shots, and gushing praise from colleagues like Guillermo del Toro, we have plenty of reason to believe the film could be his most brilliant yet. On the other hand, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been dead wrong about a movie this early on.

This week in Pasadena, Gravity had its first test screening, and while the cut was apparently very rough, audiences saw enough to form some strong opinions about it. From here, it sounds like it could be this year’s Tree of Life — gorgeous, innovative, worthy of acclaim, and perhaps a little divisive. Hit the jump to see some reactions.

Our Germain Lussier didn’t actually attend the viewing, but he’s heard some others talking about it:

VERY unfinished but heard it’s visually ambitious, interesting but not world-changing.

The Film Stage‘s Jordan Raup, wasn’t present either, but the reactions he heard were more wholeheartedly positive:

Despite rough FX, hear good things about last night’s Gravity screening. “Masterpiece, phenomenal, visually amazing.” We’ll see in 200 days.

I have added screen captures of the emotional and beautiful movie “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”, which is coming to DVD/Blu-Ray next March 27 (be sure to pre-order your copy). As far as I love all Sandy’s funny movies, her most dramatical ones are really close to my heart. I didn’t knew this book, and the movie was really touching – with amazing performances (I’m completely in love with Thomas Horn!). Be sure to watch it, if you didn’t yet.

Warner Bros’ year-end release Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close faced a challenge of being too late and too early — simultaneously. Its late December release and tight post-production schedule meant it wasn’t out in time for many year-end best-of lists, and as a result other films have taken the spotlight during the past month on the awards circuit. At the same time, for some it might be too early for a film that explores the horrors of the 9/11 tragedy. Still, the drama starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Horn and Max von Sydow did show up on the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Best Picture nominees list. (Warner Bros is promoting von Sydow’s performance with a new featurette that includes new sound bites, behind-the-scenes footage and clips; see it below). Bullock, von Sydow and Horn sat down with Deadline Awards Columnist Pete Hammond for an AwardsLine Q&A following the first industry screening of the film in early December.

So, the nominees for the 84rd Academy Awards was announced a few minutes ago, and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got a nod as Best Picture! Max von Sydow got also a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Congratulations for cast and crew!
