Reflecting an awards season in which no one film is dominating, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, voting Sunday, produced a tie, awarding its best picture prize to both Alfronso Cuaron’s survival-in-space-tale Gravity and Spike Jonze’s slightly futuristic love story Her. Cuaron was also named best director, with Jonze as runner-up. Gravity also was cited for its cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki and its editing by Cuaron and Mark Sanger, while Her got a nod for K.K. Barrett’s production design.
Sandra Bullock will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award for Acting at the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.
The awards gala will be held on Jan. 4 at the Palm Springs Convention Center — the second day of the fest, which runs Jan. 3 to 13.
Bullock’s performance in Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity” has generated substantial awards buzz following her Oscar for “The Blind Side” in 2010. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, who finds herself lost in space after a routine mission goes terribly awry. She has described the role as the most physically, emotionally and mentally challenging experience of her life.
The Palm Springs Fest previously announced that Matthew McConaughey would also be honored with the Desert Palm award, and duo also nabbed top acting honors at October’s Hollywood Film Awards.
It was announced a few minutes earlier the nominees in movies, TV and music for the 40th annual People’s Choice Awards and as expected, there’s plenty of Sandy for us to vote for! Make sure to vote, vote, and vote again, finalist voting ends on Dec. 5.

The 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards air live on CBS on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 9 p.m. ET.
Finally I found time to upload some pictures of Sandy attending the Teen Choice Awards last Sunday, 11. She won Choice Summer Movie Star and Choice Movie Chemistry (with Melissa McCarthy) awards for The Heat. I also have screen captures of the show, thanks to Brianne.
On Wednesday, Jan. 9, Sandy was presented with the first-ever People’s Choice Award for Favorite Humanitarian at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. In 2005, Bullock adopted New Orleans’ Warren Easton Charter High School, which sustained $4 million worth of damage after Hurricane Katrina hit. The single mom’s good pal, Regina King, introduced a highlight reel featuring Bullock’s continued relief efforts.
When a Vera Wang-clad Bullock took the stage, she was typically humble — and hilarious. “Two things: Regina, could you be in better shape? It’s just all kinds of wrong,” the 48-year-old honoree asked. “And she just dropped the F-bomb, by the way. I don’t know if you heard it, but I did.”
Bullock — who adopted her son Louis from New Orleans in 2010 and has a home in the Garden District — credited the volunteers for rebuilding the charter school.
That little clip that you saw does not even begin to scrape the surface of the amazing volunteers and humanitarians that I’ve come to love in New Orleans, and I’m not at all being modest when I say I don’t do anything compared to what they do on a daily basis. I am simply blessed to be able to do what I do because of what you allow me to do, and that is write a check and be a really good cheerleader and that’s it.
You will not find a student there that doesn’t know that they are loved and cared for under that roof. Half the senior class is attending college classes in their free-time. We have 100 perfect graduation rate. The students and faculty go to school on Saturdays to either study or to help others. I would so never make it in that school! They compete, but they never cut each other down. And all that happens not because it’s easy, but because they do not allow themselves any other option than to succeed, even when life outside of those walls gives them no indication of support and hope.
Academy Award-winning actress Sandra Bullock will accept the award for “Favorite Humanitarian” at PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS 2013, to be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, Wednesday, Jan. 9 (9:00-11)(9:live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.
The People’s Choice Awards will honor Sandra Bullock with the first-ever award for “Favorite Humanitarian” for her generous philanthropic efforts throughout her career, specifically her ongoing commitment to Warren Easton High School in New Orleans following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Sandra Bullock adopted Warren Easton Charter High School less than six months after Hurricane Katrina closed the heavily damaged building. She has contributed funds for college scholarships for graduating seniors, band uniforms, athletic equipment and has helped fund the renovation to the auditorium and the construction of a school-based health clinic. To celebrate these efforts, Bullock will be presented with a custom Waterford Crystal trophy during PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS 2013.
Thanks to awesome Brianne, we have now videos from Sandy last night presenting the “Best Actor” award and the pre-show interview on Red Carpet. HD captures was also added to the gallery. Enjoy!
Sandra just arrived at Golden Globes red carpet. Here’s your first look of her dress. Check back later for more pictures and videos.
